Academics
Guardian Angel School educates more than 250 students from grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. We are known throughout the Chelsea community for our challenging academic programs as well as instilling strong moral values within our students.
In addition:
• We follow the curriculum guidelines of the New York State
Department of Education and the Archdiocese of New
York.
• We participate in the New York State testing and
evaluation programs.
• The majority of our students score at or above level in the National Testing Program of the
Archdiocese of New York as well as the New York State Tests.
• More than 95% of our graduating students are accepted into the high school of their choice.
Honor Roll
Students will be considered for this honor depending upon their academic excellence as well as character development. The criteria for inclusion in the Honor Roll are as follows:
First Honors
90% Average — (A), with no grade less than 85%
Second Honors
85% Average — (B), with no grade less than 80%
Good conduct is a requirement to receive First or Second Honors. A student must receive an A (excellent) or B (good) in conduct to be eligible for Honors. A student who does not receive an A or B in conduct will not receive Honors even though their marks might warrant it.
Programs
Bridge to Literature
Bridge to Literature Program will improve the student’s success in every subject area by enhancing the student’s excitement for learning and enthusiasm for reading. In an atmosphere designed to promote and encourage the language basics of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the students will be encouraged to advance their reading skills within a challenging environment. The program will support and encourage the children to think, be resourceful, imaginative and creative. It will also reinforce self esteem whereby the students will be provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential throughout all subject areas as well.
Second Language Program
(Spanish: Kindergarten through 8th Grades)
Learning Spanish in grades Kindergarten through 8 will offer the students an opportunity to experience within a creative and nurturing environment, the exciting adventure of learning a new language. Although many students “speak” Spanish, the ability to read, write and fully communicate in Spanish, will give them the foundation to embrace many languages in the future. The program is designed to be not only subject centered but also child oriented as well. To implement a Second Language Program and introduce it at such an early age has great benefits: learning vocabulary, reading, writing, proper grammer and phrasing, will become “second nature” to them. The outstanding effects of this program will be seen throughout the students’ achievement in the other subject areas.
After School Program
There is an after school program available for our students only on days that school is in session for a FULL DAY. it operates from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The fee is $9.00 per day per child; $6.00 each additional child in the family.
In order for the child to continue each month in the Program:
• The previous month’s fee must be paid in full.
• Consistent failure to pick up child on time
will require the child to be dismissed from the program.
• Any child displaying inappropriate behavior will not be permitted to attend the after school
program.
